2000 FPF Top 100

This spring, we hit the highways to scour the state from Miami to Tampa to Palatka, thoroughly searching every nook and cranny, going where no man has dared to go, showing up at practices, games, and camps ...in search of the top 100. Now that season is finished and some of the players have really stepped it up out on the field where it counts, here it is, the FloridaPrepFootball.com post season Top 100 Florida players.

We base our ratings on how good a player will be at the next level, not necessarily on how good a high school football player he may be. Although academics play an important part in a players future success, we consider academics only slightly in this list since we don't know who may or may not qualify.

1. Jovonny Ward - S - Miami Northwestern. Sophomore of the year, member of the state title team, at 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds he is a big time player will play anywhere as a freshman.

2. Kevis Coley - LB - Palatka. Plays with an intensity level which is unmatched. A pure middle linebacker with no apparent weakness who is as good as any incoming freshman linebacker we have seen in years.

3. Antrel Rolle - CB - Homestead South Dade. Athletically he's awesome, great character and student. Will be a big time safety in college and as for natural ability, it's there. A playmaker who dominates the game like no one else.

4. Jerome Carter - S - Lake City Columbia. As good as he is, he still has upside potential with his freakish ability. Very versatile player who could play running back, corner, safety, or even linebacker in college.

5. Gerard Ross - S - Jacksonville Trinity Christian. A ballhawk with great instincts, well coached. Type of player who could play right away at FSU, where he is heading. Another safety playing quarterback this year.

6. Frank Gore - RB - Coral Gables. Voted top player after leading all Dade county in rushing last year, Gore runs with vision, follows his blockers well, and creates opportunities for himself when there is nothing there.

7. Lydell Ross - RB - Tampa Gaither. Re-writing the Hillsborough rushing record books and ranked #1 runing back by a lot of college coaches.

8. Craphonso Thorpe - WR - Tallahassee Lincoln. A superstar receiver who leads his team in big games. Also a top flight DB. The type of player who could see early play time at FSU.

9. Dallas Baker - WR - New Smyrna Beach. Tall receiver with great hands, finds ways to get open, and product of a well coached system.

10. Jermaine Carlyle - DL - Rockledge. Plays with more heart then anyone in the state, especially tough when playing inside where he uses his athleticism to disrupt.
